Definition and Areas of Use :
The simplest member of the aromatic carboxylic acid family, Benzoic Acid, is a weak acid that is a precursor to the synthesis of many important organic compounds.
Benzoic Acid is a white flake and crystalline solid, slightly soluble in water.
More than 90 percent of commercial benzoic acid is directly converted to phenol and caprolactam.
Its use is increasing in the production of glycol benzoates for the application of plasticizers in adhesive formulations.
It is also used in the production of alkyd resins and drilling mud additives for crude oil recovery applications.
It is also a rubber polymerization activator.
