Definition and Usage :
Castor oil plant (Ricinus communis) is a plant species from the euphorbia family, whose homeland is India. It grows naturally or is cultivated in places with Mediterranean climate. The Ricin substance found in its seeds is poisonous.
The oil obtained from its seeds is a colorless-pale yellow colored, slightly odorous oil. It is easily soluble in alcohol. Since the oil is difficult to digest, it is not used as cooking oil. Its use in medicine is widespread. The composition of the oil is especially Ricinoleic acid. The oil has a laxative effect on the small intestines. A 15-30 gram amount has a strong laxative effect. Since it is difficult to heat, it is also used as motor oil. In the industry, it has been used in soap and paint production, leatherwork, ink production, and in oil lamps due to its soot-free burning and white flame. It is also found as an additive in diaper rash creams for babies.
