Magnesium chloride, chemical formula MgCl2, is an inorganic and irregular compound. Magnesium chloride, which can be dissolved in alcohol and water and partially, if not completely, hydrolyzes when heated, has many areas of use. Magnesium chloride, which is in liquid form, is used as a de-icer in road ice by taking advantage of its freezing point. Magnesium chloride is also called de-icer due to this feature. It is known that the purest magnesium chloride compounds are obtained from seafood in Japan.
