Definition and Areas of Use :
As a type of fluoro silicate, potassium fluorosilicate can be used as fluoridizing agents for water supply, in the production of synthetic cryolite, and in metal plating. Potassium fluorosilicate can be used as a soluble component in porcelain enamel, as oral care materials, and as wood preservatives. Potassium fluorosilicate can also be used for the production of ceramic materials and optical glass.
Potassium fluorosilicate has weak oxidizing or reducing powers. However, redox reactions can still occur. Most of the compounds in this class are poorly soluble or insoluble in water. If soluble in water, the solutions are usually strongly acidic or strongly basic. These compounds do not react with water.
